Where can I make friends?

Well I recently moved to Canada, well 4 months ago but I still only have two friends. One lives far and the other never has time for me... anyway, I am trying to make friends but its hard for me to meet people in person, I am not very good at meeting people first contact. I have been trying the Craigslist post and a site called plentyoffish . com, yes I know its a dating site but they have option for friends or just hang out ETC, I have also tried tdotwire . com but the fact that they have "only the green" as a smoking option deters me from wanting to meet people there. I am in desperate need of human interaction I am having social withdrawal! I am evening having full conversations with myself and responding sometimes debating too... And I don't want to go crazy. Please help. Even if its a website for people in Toronto it would be great.
