To call or not to call after an interview?

I had a phone interview on 07/15 with the hiring manager regarding a position I applied for. Is it deemed appropriate to call the number she called me from back to f/u? She never emailed me or told me it was okay to contact her, but the anticipation is killing me! During the interview, she seemed extremely interested and stated that I would be more suited for an even higher position that she's trying to fill, the interview went over the alloted time and I can only ume that she's interested, however she did tell me that she would get back with me or have some sort of decision made by late last week or early this week. I contacted the recruiter (who emailed me and input her contact information in the signature block) but she stated that no final decisions have been made, but she didn't sound as if she knew much. So should I call the hiring manager back from the number she called me from?
